![]() Church Inn, courtesy of Eye Witness Manchester A Grade 2 listed building, with recent excavations discovering an underground cellar, dated to the early 17th Century. But there was most likely a tavern on or near this location prior to this date. With this long history (and ale) comes the inevitable ghost story. A Monk, given the name iof Tom by a previous landlord (1969-1973) is said to have been bricked up behind a wall in the building. Friendly though a bit naughty, he has made him self known to people over the years by moving full barrels of beer around the cellar. Known as the Ostrich prior to 1823, it has always been the centre of the Parish activities, and once had stock, a bowling green (now the Rectory Lawn). Beer was produced on site until 1891.
