Lords of the Manor

The first known Lord of the Manor of Prestwich was Robert de Prestwich (1080-1086), from him the line continued for nearly 700 years until Thomas William Coke disposed of the Manor in 1777.

See the ancestory of Thomas WIlliam Coke back to Robert de Prestwich via the Langley's, Tetlowes and others here.

As you can imagine the clouds of time obscure what we see of the history of Prestwich. As a consequence there are conflicting sources regarding the Lords of the Manor, with confusing fines applied on the Inheritence over the years.

This One  - (XLS format for Netscape viewers)- is based on the work by Rev W Nicholls published in The History and Traditions of Prestwich, 1905. In it he makes the connection that Alicia de Wooley (daughter of Henry de Pontefract) and Alicia de Wolveley are the same person, and goes on to detail her decendants for two generations before Joan de Tetlowe inherited the Manor.
